Pakistan's ruling coalition has formally announced that it has
decided to impeach President Pervez Musharraf.
Speaking at a news
conference, Asif Ali Zardari, the husband of slain former premier
Benazir Bhutto, said Pakistan's ruling coalition had agreed to
table a motion in parliament on Monday to impeach the president.
The consensus came after three days of talks between Pakistan
People's Party Leader Zardari and former Prime Minister Nawaz
Sharif of the Pakistan Muslim Leaque-Nawaz. Pakistani media have
also reported that the coalition is planning to reinstall more than
60 judges who were sacked by Musharraf after he declared a state of
emergency last year. Meanwhile, Musharraf has cancelled plans to
travel to Beijing for the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games.
The foreign ministry says Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani is to
attend the ceremonies in his place.
