Hamas has released some 150 Fatah members, including a senior
leader, who were arrested last month in the Islamist-ruled Gaza
Strip.
The group included Abdallah Abu Samhadana, a senior member
of Palestinian president Mahmud Abbas's Fatah movement which
was forced out of Gaza when Hamas seized power in June 2007. A
Fatah official said that another 150 of their members were still in
Hamas prisons. They were arrested following the July 25 bombing
that killed five senior Hamas fighters and a girl. Hamas blamed the
bombing on Fatah, which denied any involvement in the attack and
later launched its own tit-for-tat arrest campaign in the
Israeli-occupied West Bank.
