A train crash in the Czech Republic has killed seven people and
injured at least 67 others.
The EuroCity express from Krakow in
Poland crashed into a Czech road bridge which had just collapsed
during construction. The locomotive and at least six carriages
derailed, leaving victims in a mass of twisted metal.
Officials said the train, which was en route to Prague, struck at
120 kilometers an hour shortly after its driver had applied
emergency brakes. On board were 400 people, including Czech,
Polish and Slovakian rock music fans. Rescuers have taken the
injured to 10 hospitals across the northwest of the Czech Republic.
