A car bomb in the northern Iraqi town of Tal Afar has killed at
least 16 people.
Security sources say 20 others were injured when
the bomb exploded near a marketplace. Tal Afar is 450 kilometres
north of Baghdad, near Mosul, in an area where US-backed Iraqi
forces have in recent months launched a crackdown on Sunni Arab
militants. A spokesman for the anti-American Iraqi Shiite cleric
Moqtada al-Sadr says his Mehdi Army militia could be dissolved if
the United States begins implementing a troop withdrawal timetable.
