calls for better educational and preventative programmes to combat
the spread of the virus.
The director of the United Nations
Development Programme's AIDS group, Jeffrey O'Malley, said that no
effective cure was yet in sight. Other groups cautioned that rising
food prices were leading people to go hungry, posing an additional
burden for people infected with HIV.
