NATO will hold an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday at Moscow's
request.
The meeting to discuss the crisis in Georgia was asked for
by Russian Ambassador to NATO Dmitry Rogozin. At a press conference
on Monday in Tbilisi, Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili
accused the Kremlin of attempting to topple his government.
Earlier, Saakashvili signed a ceasefire agreement proposed by
European Union envoys, who will now attempt to persuade Russia to
accept a truce in Georgia. For its part, Moscow has accused
Washington of trying to disrupt its military operations by flying
Georgian troops from Iraq into the conflict zone in South Ossetia.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has suggested that the
Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe send observers
to the disputed region, where the Kremlin charges that Tbilisi has
triggered a humanitarian catastrophe.
