12.08.2008 - Architect Kaplicky presents design of Czech concert hall

The black triangular building has been dubbed an eagle ray.
Kaplicky said the design was inspired by organic forms, both animal and human.
The centre that is to stand on the site of former barracks and have two concert halls, one for some 1000 people and the other for some 400 people.
The construction is planned by the South Bohemian Society of Friends of Music that has been organising the annual Emma Destinn music festival in Ceske Budejovice for 19 years.
The centre is to have the most quality music hall in the country and its acoustics is to be comparable to that of the Berliner Philharmonie.
Kaplicky consulted many aspects of his design with prominent Czech classical musicians.
The construction might start in the spring 2010 if the necessary finances are gathered.

The costs are preliminary estimated at 1.5 billion crowns.
The new national library building by Kaplicky, dubbed a "blob" or "octopus" due to its unorthodox design, was originally to be constructed at Prague-Letna. But the project has become a political issue and it probably will not be implemented in near future.
