German consumer and data protection agencies report uncovering
widespread illegal trading in private personal data, including bank
account numbers.
A consumer advocacy group in the northern state of
Schleswig-Holstein received a CD with the names, addresses,
telephone numbers, birth dates and bank data of 17,000 individuals.
The information had been collected from a lottery company and sold
to other German firms.
