13.08.2008 - Russia says Czechs export arms to Georgia en masse - press

The Russian paper writes that the Czech Republic has also supplied missile launchers to Georgia.
Moscow has accused Georgian troops of having massacred the inhabitants of Cchinvali exactly by these tanks and missile launchers.
The Czech Foreign Ministry did not comment on the arms exports on Tuesday, saying it is in the agenda of the Industry and Trade Ministry's licence section.
According to the Russian ministry's data, the Czech Republic has exported 120 T-54/55 tanks and 55 T-72 tanks to Georgia in the past two years.
Though the T-55s are outdated, they can be very efficient in the fights against the poor forces of the South Ossetian separatist army.

The T-72s are, on the contrary, top modern machines, Pravo writes.
Moscow claims that the Czech Republic has also exported 24 self-propelled 152mm-calibre guns and 36 12mm-calibre D-30 guns to Georgia, which are the most advanced weapons in the Czech military armament, according to the data on the Defence Ministry's website.
The Internet Wikipedia writes that the Georgian military has the 48 RM-70 Grad systems, originally Soviet-made missile launchers fixed to the Czech-made Tatra lorries.
Russia says the Czech Republic has supplied six such missile launchers to Georgia in the past two years.
Tbilisi also recently received ten L-29 Delfin aircraft from Ukraine which is the second largest tank supplier to Georgia, after the Czech Republic.
Moreover, the United States, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Greece, Hungary and Israel have exported a large volume of arms to Georgia.
According to the Czech Foreign Ministry's statistics, the value of the arm exports to Georgia increased from 1.3 million euros to more than six million euros between 2003 and 2006.
In 2007, Czechs exported arms and special material to Georgia worth 13.244 million euros, almost 99 percent of which went to the Georgian armed forces, Industry and Trade Ministry spokesman Tomas Bartovsky said.
He added that 42 percent of the exports were ammunition, special parts of weapons, high-calibre arms and launchers, while military vehicles made up 30 percent and infrared equipment 23 percent of the exports.
In 2002 and 2003, the Czech Industry and Trade Ministry approved the export of the SU-25 aircraft from the Czech military arsenal to Georgia where the SU-25s create the core of the military, Pravo reports.
