On Wednesday, he won two races, taking
his career total to an unequalled 11 Olympic gold medals. Phelps
has won five gold medals at the Beijing Games so far with latest
victories in world record times in the 200 metre butterfly and
4x200 metre freestyle team relay events. He is on track for
his target of eight gold medals at a single Olympics, which would
beat the record of seven currently held by former US swimmer Mark
Spitz.
