Lebanon's president Michel Suleiman has arrived in Damascus for
landmark talks with his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad.
The
meeting of the two leaders is aimed at establishing diplomatic
relations for the first time. The two-day visit is the first by a
Lebanese president to Syria since the 2005 assassination of former
premier Rafiq Hariri in Beirut. The murder, which many in Lebanon
blame on Syria, triggered the pullout of Syrian forces from Lebanon
after almost 30 years of military presence.
