Thousands of Palestinians have gathered in Ramallah to bid farewell
to their most famous poet.
Mahmoud Darwish died at the age of 67
last week following heart surgery in a United States hospital. He
was laid to rest on a hill overlooking the West Bank and nearby
Jerusalem, in accordance with his wishes. Darwish was cherished
among the Arab world for his poetry and literature, and in 1988
