Russia has reacted with anger to a deal that will allow the United
States to station part of an anti-missile shield in Poland.
President Dimitry Medvedev told reporters at a press conference in
Sochi that the shield was directed at Russia.
US officials have
repeatedly denied that this is the case, saying that it is meant to
protect the US and its allies from attacks by rogue states. Senior
Polish and US officials have signed a preliminary agreement
to let the US place 10 interceptor missiles on the Baltic coast.
This comes in exchange for a pledge by Washington to boost Poland's
own air defences.
