Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt has broken the men's 100-metre world
record, to clinch Olympic Gold in 9.69 seconds.
His former world
record was 9.72 seconds. The 21-year-old won his country's first
Olympic title, ahead of Richard Thompson of Trinidad and Tobago and
Walter Dix of the United States. Meanwhile, in the pool, Michael
Phelps has equalled fellow American Mark Spitz's record of seven
gold medals at one Olympics by taking the men's 100-meter
butterfly. German athletes won the silver and bronze medals in the
men's 25-meter rapid fire pistol competition and silver in men's
point race in track cycling.
