In Pakistan the ruling coalition says that President Pervez
Musharraf has very little time left to avoid impeachment.
The
coalition, led by the party of the assassinated former prime
minister Benazir Bhutto, said it has finalised impeachment charges
against Musharraf and would lodge them in parliament early next
week if he does not resign. But Musharraf's spokesman has
repeatedly insisted that the former army chief, who seized power in
a bloodless military coup in 1999, has no intention of quitting.
US, British and Saudi officials are continuing to try and secure
legal immunity for Musharraf.
