Germany and China say they are in agreement that the international
peacekeeping force in Sudan must to be expanded in order to resolve
the African country's Darfur conflict.
German Defense Minister
Franz Josef Jung informed reporters of the joint position following
talks in Beijing with his Chinese counterpart. Washington has been
pressing China to use its close ties to Khartoum to help end
Sudan's ethnic conflict. Meanwhile, Darfur rebels have accused the
government of more attacks, saying Khartoum was not serious about
peace and was pursuing a military solution to the conflict. Sudan
has denied the allegations saying it had fought off an ambush in an
isolated incident.
