US military base in eastern Afghanistan.
Afghan security forces in
Khost were able to prevent a second explosion. The attack came as
Afghanistan was marking Independence Day. A total of 7,000 police
officers have been mobilised in the capital Kabul following the
deaths of at least 60 people in a series of clashes across the
country's south. The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF)
had warned of possible attacks by Taliban insurgents.
