The United States says Russia must increase the "size and pace" of
its withdrawal from Georgia.
For its part Germany has described
Russia's progress as "very unsatisfactory". While Russian military
trucks have been seen leaving the Georgian city of Gori, there was
no sign of the large-scale pullout demanded by western powers. A
senior Russian military official said Moscow will pull back its
forces behind the buffer zone within Georgia by the end of Friday.
Earlier Russia circulated its own draft United Nations resolution
at the Security Council, aimed at bringing peace to Georgia. This
comes a day after Russia's ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin
blocked a Western-sponsored draft that demanded an immediate
withdrawal of Russian forces from Georgia.
