Russia has announced that a military withdrawal of all of its
forces from Georgian territory to the breakaway region of South
Ossetia will be completed by Friday.
Interfax news agency said
Russian Defence Minister Anatoly Serdyukov said the order had come
from the supreme head of the armed forces. Earlier Russia said it
intended to keep 500 troops in a security zone surrounding South
Ossetia. Meanwhile in Washington the Pentagon has said it has seen
"minimal movements" of Russian forces from Georgia, but no
significant withdrawal. Germany has escribed Russia's
progress as "very unsatisfactory".
