Pirates have seized a German cargo ship off the coast of Somalia,
bringing the number of ships hijacked to a record four in 48 hours.
The International Maritime Bureau confirmed on Friday that the
German-owned vessel, sailing under the flag of Antigua and
Barbados, was taken late on Thursday.
The bureau did not reveal the
name of the ship. Earlier on Thursday, Somali pirates hijacked an
Iranian bulk carrier and a Japanese-operated tanker. A day earlier,
they seized a Malaysian oil tanker. A multi-coalition naval force
has deployed a warship to track the vessels.
