Investigators in Spain are still trying to determine the cause of
Wednesday's plane crash in Madrid which killed 153 people.
Spanish
media are reporting that a video taken by the airport authority,
AENA, contradicts witness statements that one of the plane's
engines caught fire before the aircraft veered off the runway
during take-off. The owners of the McDonnell-Douglas MD-82
aircraft, Spanair, said a heating air intake valve was repaired
just before takeoff, and experts quoted by Spanish newspapers said
this fault alone could not be responsible for the crash. Only 19 of
the 172 passengers and crew on board the flight destined for the
Canary Islands survived the crash.
