Afghan villagers have staged angry protests over claims that 76
civilians were killed in a coalition air-strike.
President Hamid
Karzai condemned Friday's operation in the western province of
Herat, because of civilian casualties, but there are conflicting
claims about the true death toll. The United States, has said it
will launch an investigation into the incident, after initially
denying any civilian deaths. It initially said 30 militants were
killed in the attack. The issue of civilian casualties resulting
from air-strikes has become an increasingly sore point between
President Karzai and his western military allies.
