The 2008 Olympic Games have offically been declared over.
International Olympic Committee chief Jacques Rogge made the final
declaration and called the Beijing Games truly exceptional.
The
Lord Mayor of London Boris Johnson then accepted the Olympic flag
from Rogge as the British capital and host of the 2012 Games
becomes the focal point of international sport. Before and after
the Olympic flame was extinguished, the hosts put on a spectacular
programme that involved thousands of actors, musicians, and stunt
people. The German government said the Beijing Games made a
contribution to the future of China. But human rights activists
claimed that rights violations could still be linked to the Games,
including media censorship and the unlawful evictions of hundreds
of thousands of Chinese citizens.
