41 medals in total, its worst result since reunification.
The final
day's highlights included Kenya's Samuel Wanjiru winning the men's
marathon. The United States men's basketball squad redeemed their
poor 2004 by beating Spain in the championship. The very final
medal of the Olympics went to France, whose men's handball squad
defeated Iceland in the gold medal game.
